One Ocean Science - Case study video
During the One Ocean Summit held in Brest from 9 to 11 February 2022, Ifremer was present alongside scientific and institutional actors and heads of state to share knowledge and solutions to better protect and restore the ocean. Two major events organized by the institute brought the voice of science to this summit: the OneOceanScience Forum - a world tour of ocean sciences in the presence of scientists from 10 countries - and a Meeting of European Oceanographic Fleets.
The OneOceanScience Forum brought the voice of scientists from around the world and recalled the essential role of ocean sciences to protect the ocean and its ecosystems. With Jean Jouzel as a keynote speaker, this event brought together ten scientists from different countries: Brazil, Fiji, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Romania, Singapore, Tanzania, Tunisia and the United States. They shared their knowledge of the ocean and the solutions they are co-constructing with decision-makers to solve the most urgent development problems.
Labelled by the United Nations Decade of Ocean Sciences for Sustainable Development, the international OneOceanScience campaign has mobilized 37 institutes in 33 countries and reached more than 9 million people worldwide in the fall of 2021.
This action is led by Ifremer, in partnership with CNRS and IRD, with the support of the Ocean-Climat platform and the participation of Thomas Pesquet, ESA astronaut.
